LYME Regis FC’s pre-season preparation took another positive step when the first team came away from Somerset Senior side Combe St Nicholas with a 1-0 win.
The Seasiders had numerous chances in the first half but it was that man again – Ben Vine – who got the all important goal, another screamer from 30 yards out.
Vine scored a brilliant individual effort in Lyme’s 2-2 draw against South West Peninsular side Axminster Town and manager Gerard Hitchcock described him as “being on fire” after this game.
Hitchcock was particularly pleased with his make-shift back four with an average age of 19 – Cam Fowler, Kingsley Wellman, Robbie Fowler and Cody Bowditch. They were up against a striker with Western League experience who, according to the Lyme boss, “didn’t get a look in”.
Hitchcock is hoping to organise another fiendly against opposition from a higher level this coming Saturday (details to be confirmed).
