Uplyme snatch victory by just two runs in nail-biter against Sidmouth

IN front of a bumper crowd at Uplyme and Lyme Regis, the visitors Sidmouth and X1 won the toss and elected to bowl first in what turned out to be an absolute nail-biter.

This looked to be a good decision when they had Uplyme at 57-3 with the early dismissal of Mark Batey with a mix-up in the middle resulting in a run out. Fellow opener Anand Abhishek went on to make 30.

When Elsworth went for 17 the home side looked to be in some bother. Skipper Sam Farrow entered proceedings and played a real captain’s innings, finishing with 77, well backed by Tyler Wellman (25). Bruce Maltby also chipped in with 22 with some lusty blows and  Uplyme finishing on 238-7 from 45 overs.

The visitors set about their chase, but found themselves in a similar position to Uplyme at 55-3. What followed was a fine knock from Taylor Ingham-Hill, who was finally caught in the deep for 121 off the bowling of Joe Elsworth.

Sidmouth looked to be on course to chase the total down but Uplyme showed real fight right down to the final over. With two balls to spare, Elsworth took the final wicket pinning Wainwright leg before to complete a fine five-wicket haul and send the home crowd wild.

The result keeps Uplyme top of the Devon League Division C East table and face an away trip to lowly placed Exmouth this Saturday.
