Uplyme put pressure on leaders with another 20-point haul

Uplyme and Lyme Regis kept the pressure on the two teams above them in the Devon Cricket league Division D East with a comprehensive 10-wicket victory over Chardstock.

Another 20-point haul keeps Uplyme in third place, but there is now only five points between them and the front runners – Alphington and Countess Wear and North Devon. Alphington lost their first game of the season to Sampford Peverell and Tiverton.

Chardstock won the toss and elected to bat. After losing opening Robbie Hutching with just two runs on the board, Gary Larcombe (31) and Alex Watson (36) steadied the ship. James Rockett also contributed a useful 30, but a blistering spell from Uplyme’s Tyler Wellman, who took five wickets at a cost of 42 runs in eight overs,  saw the visitors all out for 163.

Openers Mark Batey and Harvey Brimicombe played themselves in and gave a lesson in controlled batting, steering Uplyme to a victory score of 165 in 29 overs for the loss of no wickets. Brimicombe scored 72 not out whilst Batey carried his bat for 69.

  • The Uplyme players are currently enjoying the sunshine in Cornwall on their first tour for 25 years. At Perranorth’s stunning ground Uplyme scored 250-7 with Joe Elsworth (60), Tyler Wellman (51), Steve Batey (33) and Sam Farrow (31) top scoring. Perranporth were all out for 163, the main wicket-takers being Charlie Moss (4 for 9), Steve Batey (3 for 23) and Mark Batey (2-11).
