Uplyme need just one point for promotion

UPLYME & Lyme Regis Cricket club need just one point from their last two games of the season to win promotion from the Devon Cricket League Division E East.

Uplyme chalked up another impressive 20-point victory at Bideford to retain third place with nearest rivals Topsham St James in a tied game with Woodbury.

North Devon lead the table with Sidmouth.  (245 points) in second place and Uplyme third on 240, 40 points. ahead of Topsham.

Bideford won the toss and put Uplyme into bat. Restricted to 38 overs due to the rain, the villagers scored a total of 205 for 5 with opener Steve Batey top scoring on 52 and useful knocks from Duncan Ross (43 not out), Tyler Wellman (26), Jed Whittington (25) and Bruce Maltby (18).

The home team were then skittled out for 133 off 33.2 overs, the bowling honours being shared by Steve Batey (3 for 12 off seven overs) and Duncan Ross (3 for 28 off 7.2 overs).

Uplyme travel to North Devon on Saturday where just one point will secure a promotion place.
