Uplyme draw level with leaders after seven-wicket victory

A SEVEN-wicket victory over Kentisbeare saw Uplyme and Lyme Regis draw level on points with the Devon Cricket League Division D East leaders, Alphington and Countess Wear, who keep their top spot on average.

With four games left to play, it looks like an exciting run-in to the end of the season with the other front runner, North Devon, having dropped points when they were beaten by Alphington. They now trail the top two by 19 points with four games left to play.

The league title could be settled on August 14 when Uplyme are at home to Alphington in all all-to-play-for fixture.

Kentisbeare won the toss and elected to bat and struggled against Uplyme’s lively six-man attack, five of whom all took two wickets apiece, the most economic being Andrew Harrison who had 21 runs knocked off his four overs.

In reply, Uplyme knocked off the required overs, losing just three wickets in the process, the top scorer being the stylish Sam Farrow who hit 78. Andrew Harrison chipped in with 31 and Tyler Wellman added 27 useful runs in their total off 173-3, earning another 20 points.

On Saturday, Uplyme are home to mid-tablers Feniton (1 pm start).
