Uplyme cricketers storm to top of the league

UPLYME and Lyme Regis have stormed to the top of the Devon Cricket League Division C East, having opened up an eight-point lead after just two matches.

Uplyme travelled to the impressive facilities at Exeter on Saturday to earn a maximum-points victory over the city’s 2nd X1 in a four-wicket victory.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat and were bowled out for 198 in just over 37 overs.

Bowling honours for Uplyme were shared by Joe Elsworth (3-43 off seven overs) and Tyler Wellman (3-38 off six).

At one time Exeter were struggling at 34-5 but No 7 Dom Coulson steadied the ship with a fine knock of 77 before he was caught behind by Anand Abhishek, Uplyme’s overseas player.

In reply, Uplyme reached the winning score of 200 for the loss of six wickets after 42 overs.

They batted responsbibly to obtain maximum points with all those who came to the crease making useful contributions. Openers Martin Lanford (33) and Mark Batey (31) got them off to a good start and skipper Sam Farrow chipped in with a useful 32.

Exeter 2nd X1 8 points; Uplyme 20 points.
