Uplyme and Lyme Regis Cricket Club promoted with one game to play

UPLYME and Lyme Regis cricketers are celebrating their promotion to the Devon League C Division East despite the fact that their penultimate game of the season away to Toverton this afternoon has fallen foul to the weather.

Club chairmen Steve Batey announced on social media this morning that the club had been promoted despite the fact that today’s game was off.

Batey wrote: “Fortunately the club has been promoted with one game to spare. Congratulations to Sam Farrow (captain)in his first season in charge and to all who have been involved this year.”

Uplyme’s last league game will be next Saturday (August 28) against NorthDevon, followed by a presentation evening on Sunday, August 29.

Promotion to Division C represents a huge turn-round for the club which nearly went out of business three years ago due to financial difficulties. But a rejuvenated committee, led by an ambitious chairman, has seen their fortunes restored, both on and off the pitch.
