UPLYME and Lyme Regis surrendered their top spot in the Devon Cricket League Division D East with a second defeat on the trot, losing by three wickets in damp conditions at home to Sampford Peverell and Tiverton.
The visitors won the toss and put Uplyme into bat. Openers Steve and Mark Batey went relatively cheaply, but Andrew Harrison, with a fine knock of 65, and another excellent innings from Tyler Wellman (87) got the scoreboard moving as Uplyme posted 237-7 off 45 overs.
Sampford Peverell got off to a good start with 129 runs on the board before losing a wicket and went on to a winning score of 238-7 with two overs to spare.
All but one of the seven victims fell to Harvey Brimicombe, who finished with 6 for 39 in a career-best nine-over spell.
This defeat sees Uplyme drop to second place in Division D East, nine points behind new leaders Alphington and Countess Wear, who had an 85-run victory over Barnstaple and Pilot, Uplyme’s opponents next Saturday.
