Seasiders perform well in first training match

LYME Regis footballers are back in training and gave a good account of themselves in their first pre-season friendly against Ottery St Mary on Saturday.

The Seasiders have been training for a few weeks now under new coach Julien Simier and they looked to be a good nick in their 2-1 win over an Ottery team that will be playing in the newly-formed Devon League.

Lyme conceded a goal early on but fought back with goals from Nathan Womersley and Kingsley Wellman, Lyme’s player of the year last season who was playing his firstt game after injuring an ankle late last season.

Lyme have signed Mike Knight, a former Axminster player and brother of Gary Knight, one of the Seasiders’ most experienced and consistent players. in the last few years. A number of other signings are being pursued to strengthen their squad.

A second match between the club’s reserve teams ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Seasiders are currently using the Woodroffe School pitch following some turfing at the Davey Fort and have a number of friendlies lined up for all three teams between now and the start of the Devon & Exeter League season on August 24th.
