CHARMOUTH booked their place in the Dorset Junior Cup quarter finals – but it was far from easy.
FC Bearwood Sports turned up and put everything out there while Charmouth just didn’t start.
Bearwood took the lead in the first five minutes after their centre forward broke through the backline to make it 1-0, although the Robins tough it was offside.
Bearwood continued to pressure Charmouth and in the eighth minute were awarded a penalty for handball, but a great save from Ali Harvey kept the score at 1-0.
Bearwood were first to every ball. They looked like they wanted it more and they were rewarded with a second goal just 10 minutes into the game.
Charmouth began to get their game together but Bearwood still looked dangerous. The pressure began to build with multiple corners but it looked like it was going to be one of those days for the Robins where the final touch was not coming.
In the 24th minute Dave Bridges’ shot glanced off the bar. Bearwoods defense was holding strong with a couple of great saves from their keeper.
The second half saw Bearwood sit back to defend their lead and Charmouth started moving the ball, creating chance after chance, until the 52nd minute when a great team move saw Ty Allen slot Ashley through for the come-back to begin.
It was then constant Charmouth pressure pinning Bearwood back in their 18-yard box, but they just could not find the net.
But in the 80th minute an awesome dipping strike from Ty Allen saw Charmouth draw level. This took the wind out of Bearwood’s sails and shortly after Jack grabbed the winner to make it 3-2 to Charmouth.
All credit to FC Bearwood who battled hard through the whole game, but Charmouth progress to the quarter finals. Man-of- the-match went to Bogdan.
The first half was best forgotten but the team showed showed real fighting spirit in the second half.
