Reserves run out of steam in last 20 minutes

RETURNING to action for the first time after  lockdown on Saturday, Lyme Regis Reserves fielded only 11 players for the trip to Teignmouth 2nds in the Devon & Exeter League Division One East.

The Lyme players all gave a huge effort and were right in the game at 3-2 down with 20 minutes left, but the home team’s fresher legs (they had 16 with the roll on roll off subs) showed in the last 20 minutes, scoring two really good goals.

Dec Ellis and Matt Preece, who were running the side, said after the game: “We could not have been prouder of the attitude and effort the players showed.”

They named Tom Bastin as man-of-the-match, although there were several contenders in mid-field, describing his performance as “absolutely fantastic, dangerous with the ball and working really hard defensively”.

The Seasiders goals came from Josh Daines, direct from a corner, and a great 20-yard strike from Harvey Brimicombe into the roof of the net.

The Reserves will be back in action on Easter Monday afternoon with a home match against Otterton (kick-off 3pm but no spectators allowed inside the club grounds) and on Saturday, April 10 they entertain Clyst Valley 2nds.
