Lyme seniors through to first final

lyme regis golf clubLYME Regis Golf Club seniors had a thrilling yo-yo match with Isle of Purbeck in the semi- final of the Knighton Heath knock-out competition.

Fortunately the tail wagged and Lyme won through to their first final with a 6.5 to 3.5 win and will be play against Bramshaw at Knighton Heath on September 13th.

The midweek stableford produced a deserved win for an in-form Keith Gibson, as he produced two gross birdies in a front nine scoring 21 points.

Although he couldn’t keep up the same high standard on the back nine, he gritted his way through to score 17 and achieve the top spot with 38 points.

Hard on his heels was Neil Smith who scored on every hole as he battled his way round, improving on the back nine to come second with 37 points.

Mark Scott upped his game on the back nine, especially on holes 16 and 17 where he scored birdies to finish a worthy third on 36 points.

The ladies Par Cup provided keen competition as the leaderboard changed frequently. Karen Nicholson was the person who mastered the conditions as she carefully played her way round the course cautiously, but sensibly consolidating her position to win with a good score of plus two.

One time leader Gilly Madill came second having had an electrifying start, and sadly could not maintain the momentum, but still finished one better than par on +1, while Cyndy Mudford and Judith Ellard came in on zero to tie for third place.
