Indoor bowls: Bridport ladies go top

bowlsBRIDPORT Ladies in door bowls A team are now neck and neck at the top of the Dorset County League Division One table with Dolphin A after taking six of the eight points against East Dorset A.

With three games left Dolphin still hold the ace card though as they have home advantage when the sides meet this week.

Francis Hewett, Ann Turtell, Pat Cornick and Margaret Clapp were 5-10 down against East Dorset but a ten-shot burst gave them a 19-12 win. Pamela Daters, Margaret Pestelle, Sue Walsh and Annie Legg were 21-20 ahead on the penultimate end but dropped a four count to lose 21-24.

Bridport’s B team also picked up six points against the Bere Regis-based Dorset Resort in Division Two. Sharon Heath, Erica Sarson, Pat Cowmeadow and Liz Walker doing the damage with a 20-11 win. Tracy Marley, Anne Parkins, Barbara Jenkins and Shiela Nicoll going down 16-20.

In the Dorset County Mixed League it was very much a case of both Bridport and the Dolphin dominating on their own carpets.

At Poole Martin Wilton, Anne Parkins, Barbara Jenkins and Phil Hedges and Mel Hargett, Rosie Wilton, Jenny Harding and Keith Jenkins lost 11-21, 10-35 respectively but Bridport took the extra points for the overall win as Peter Carnell, Sharon Heath, Gill and Peter Hunt won 25-12 and Laura Taylor, Mike Craddock, Sue and Brian Walsh destroyed their opponents 35-5, which included the magical hot-shot nine maximum score on one end.
