Holmes’ brace delivers Reserves’ second league win

LYME Regis Reserves jumped three place in the Devon & Exeter League Division Three with an impressive 3-1 victory at home to Westexe Park on Saturday.

It was the Ressies’ only second win of the season, having drawn one and lost three in the opening weeks. But it moved them into seventh place, having taken three points off the fourth placed team in the table.

The visitors took the lead from the penalty spot but the Lyme second stream got back on terms, also from the penalty spot, converted by Dan Rendell, after good work from Sam Pollard-Jones and Cody Bowditch.

Lyme went in at half-time win a 2-1 advantage, their second goal coming from a powerful Wes Holmes’ header.

The Seasiders made sure of the points ten minutes into the second half when a Bowditch free-kick was volleyed home by Holmes.

Manager Dominic Rowe was pleased that his side adopted well to a 3-5-2 formation in the second half and picked out Rendell and Mark Batey as his star men.

This win puts Lyme in seventh place with seven points from six games.

This coming Saturday, Lyme Reserves are at home to Melbourne Port Reserves in the first round of the Dorset Intermediate Cup (2.30 pm kick-off).
