First race of the year for Lyme Regis Sailing Club

Lyme Regis Sailing Club members took to the water for their first race of the year

KEEN to be in Lyme Regis Sailing Club’s first race of 2021, 20 boats made for the start line in Lyme Bay on Sunday, April 18.

Race officer Allan Tyler ran three short races, conditions being favourable with flat sea, bright sun and a fair breeze.

Seconds separated the leaders in the 40-minute races, with Jerry Rook and Simon Stow in their Albacore taking three first places on handicap.

Chasing them in an OK was Andy Robinson (3,2,7) and Graham Cook in his Laser (5,3,4). 

Another Albacore sailed by Tim O’Toole and Simon Law challenged for second in race one but were beaten into seventh place by Guy Woodhouse (K1), Simon Boyle (RS 100) and Jack Young  (Phantom) in race two.

Making an impressive start in his first club races, young Tom Rawlings in his ILCA, followed Mike Pridham (Laser Radial, 8,11) with a creditable ninth and 15th.

Tom has trained with Jerry Rook in the club youth race group and is keen to take part in club events.
