LOCAL brothers Jamie and Sam Pollard-Jones will launch their new pop-up escape room in Uplyme this month, ahead of a nationwide tour in 2019.
Escape rooms – physical adventure games in which players solve a series of puzzles and riddles to escape – are growing in popularity in the UK.
Uplyme brothers Jamie, an Army Captain with the King’s Royal Hussars, and Sam, a recent business graduate from the University of Bournemouth, are hoping their new portable concept – created inside a 40 foot shipping container – will fill a gap in this growing market.
They will be launching Challenger Escapes at Uplyme Village Hall, offering parties of two to six people the chance to take on this adventurous and immersive experience.
Commenting on their new business, they said: “Challenger Escapes began as a concept after a trip to Budapest where we wanted to explore the city and its legendary escape rooms.
“What struck us was how the units created fun and interesting atmospherics, often in very limited spaces. In addition, the dynamics of the group taking part were replicated within the rooms; natural leadership skills came through as did individuals’ problem solving capacity.
“Escape rooms are not a new concept to the UK but by combining the portable features of a 40ft ISO container and a desire for a new and innovative product, we believe there is a gap in the market we could exploit.
“Our first game ‘HEIST!’ is very much the start of a journey; by beginning to explore the portable side of escape rooms, and by testing the technology, we eventually want to use Jamie’s background in the UK military to develop a concept which can be used in recruitment, problem-solving and low-level leadership training.”
Following their launch in Uplyme, Challenger Escapes will be popping up around the country on a nationwide tour, and will be available to book for private or corporate events.
Can you solve the riddles and escape? Bookings to take part in the Challenger Escapes ‘HEIST!’ game in Uplyme will be taken from December 22 to January 26 for parties of three to six people.
