Woodroffe students mark Chinese New Year

THE Woodroffe School library played host to a range of events to celebrate the Chinese New Year in February.

Mrs Choy provided an amazing range of display items, including lanterns, hanging decorations, paper crafts, examples of Chinese books, and lots of informational posters.

Over three lunchtimes, students took part in a wide range of activities organised by Mrs Choy, including Chinese calligraphy, Chinese opera masks painting, paper crafts include lantern making and Chinese New Year window decoration, ‘Hui Chun’ writing (blessing words on red paper) and a competition to see who had remembered facts from the display boards.

Chocolate gold coins in traditional red envelopes were given out as prizes.

School librarian Mr Waters commented: “It was a fantastic few days, the students really enjoyed all of the activities and learnt lots about the Chinese New Year traditions.

“Many thanks to Mrs Choy for all her hard work to make this such a memorable event in the library.”
