WATCH: Spirits high as Lyme Regis carnival procession returns

LYME Regis carnival procession came as a long-awaited celebration for the town on Saturday night.

After the event was called off last year amid the pandemic, huge crowds lined the streets for the procession’s anticipated return – dancing, singing and cheering on entries as they made their way through the town centre and along the seafront.

With some bands and entries having to pull out of the event due to coronavirus restrictions, there were concerns that this year’s procession would be a scaled-back affair, but local organisations and families turned out in force to make for a successful and high-spirited event.

The procession topped off Regatta & Carnival Week with events, competitions and entertainment having been held around the town for the past seven days to raise funds for local causes.
