Road closure in Uplyme for flood works

A SECTION of Lyme Road in Uplyme is expected to be closed for two weeks while flood prevention works are carried out.

A short section of the B3165 Lyme Road, between the Murco garage and Uplyme Village Hall closed today and is expected to reopen on Sunday, March 18.

The car park outside Uplyme Village Hall has also been blocked off to allow for the flood prevention works, but the front of the hall can still be accessed by vehicles and there is parking available at the back of the venue.

Devon County Council recently approved the flood improvement schemes for Uplyme and Ivybridge, which are expected to cost more than £500,000in total.

A review of the drainage systems in Uplyme had highlighted restrictions and inadequate capacities which created a risk of flooding.

More than 14 properties were reported to have been flooded internally during 2012, some on multiple occasions.
