‘Star Wars’ actor to host charity auction

STAR of the stage and screen, Oliver Ford Davies, will act as auctioneer at a fundraising event in aid of Uplyme Community Sponsorship Scheme.

Mr Ford Davies (pictured left), best known for his role as Sio Bibble in Star Wars Episodes I to III, will boost funds for the scheme, which aims to resettle a Syrian refugee family in the local area, at an Arabian Nights theme dinner and auction on Saturday, November 30.

He will lead the auction of promises, with prizes including tea at the House of Commons with MPs; a stay in a holiday cabin; lessons in piano, guitar, tennis, gig rowing, German, drawing and the Alexander Technique; a dinner party for eight; a fossil walk; hair-styling; a bird-watching walk; a home extension/improvement plan and many more.

The event, to be held at Uplyme Village Hall, will also include an Arabian-theme dinner and will offer a wealth of opportunity to meet, mingle, try something new and learn more about Uplyme Community Sponsorship Scheme.

Tickets costing £20 must be booked in advance and are available from Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre on 01297 442138 or from Uplyme Stores.

The evening follows a successful Arabian Nights theme storytelling evening with Martin Maudsley and Andrea Crociani last week.

The community resettlement team continues a busy programme of fundraising events in Lyme and Uplyme, with the next being a fundraising disco, hosted by DJ Ayvin at The Hub in Lyme Regis, from 8pm on Saturday, September 28.

DJ Ayvin will be playing an eclectic mix jazz, soul, disco, reggae, world, remixes and electronica to suit all ages and tastes. Tickets for the disco are also available at Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre, or on the door, with a cash bar available.

On Wednesday, November 6 the Marine Theatre will screen TV producer Eric Harwood’s film ‘A Slow Odyssey: The Great Wall of China’ in aid of the scheme. Full details and tickets are available at www.marinetheatre.com

All are then invited to a public meeting at Uplyme Village Hall on Friday, November 15 to find out how the community resettlement plan is shaping up and how you can get involved.
