Scout group builds its own shooting range

OVER the summer, the 1st Lym Valley Scout Group were donated four air rifles by Devon County Scouts and members have since been hard at work adapting the Scout hut in Uplyme to ensure they could use them.

The group’s range officer, Dave Wareham, along with local carpet fitter, Adam Clark, put together a backdrop which allows shooting to take place in hut without damaging the building.

“The ability to do shooting in the hut is another feather in our cap,” said Dave.

“This now means we the costs of undertaking this activity are much cheaper than when we had to go elsewhere. It also means that more young people than ever can do activities which might have been seen as unachievable in the past.”

Adam, whose two children attend the Scouts, added: “The Scouts are very good at offering a wide range of activities.

“I think that there’s something for everyone, and there’s always opportunities to have experiences that other young people just don’t get locally!”
