Public meeting called to discuss future of Uplyme post office and garage

A PUBLIC meeting to discuss the future of Uplyme post office, shop and petrol station will be held on Sunday, November 7.

The meeting will be held at 6.30pm in Uplyme Village Hall and all are welcome to attend.

It is hoped that the meeting help to clarify the situation and answer questions after it was announced that the post office facility would close in January, with the future of the entire garage also under threat.

It was announced last month that the owner of Uplyme Filling Station, former parish councillor Dave Ostler, had confirmed that the post office service would cease to operate when the postmaster’s current lease comes to an end on January 14 2022.

He also implied that the entire facility could also shut down in the future.

Mr Ostler said that proposed changes to Uplyme Road, to provide access for a new primary school on land behind the village hall, had been an ongoing concern for several years and could pose a health and safety hazard for his business.

The public meeting was called to address issues after Uplyme resident Will Thomson set up a Facebook campaign group called ‘SOS Save Our Shop’
