A YOUNG woman from Uplyme and her Australian partner have set off on the adventure of a lifetime, sailing around the world from Croatia back to their home in Australia.
Xanthe Hayes-Yapp, who lived in Uplyme with her parents while studying at Exeter University, and her partner Jackson Cranfield, recently spent all their savings on sailing boat ‘Finding Avalon’ in Croatia and are now “taking the long route home” to North Curl Curl in northern Sydney.
Xanthe, who worked in IT sales, first became interested in water sports after her parents moved to Uplyme.
She had planned to buy a van to travel in but, after meeting architect and keen sailor Jackson, and hearing his dream of sailing around the world, the couple decided to embark on the 18-month adventure together.
They recently set off from Croatia onboard their Elan Impression 384 sailing boat and have been documenting their travels in a popular vlog on YouTube, the most recent episode of which received 15,000 hits in just two days.
The couple are currently seeking sponsorship to help with the costs of their round-the-world sailing trip. Online donations can be made via the fundraising website www.patreon.com/findingavalon and all sponsors will be given access to exclusive video content about their journey.
