Crews called to fire in Uplyme woodlands

CREWS were called to an incinerator fire that has due as to nearby woodlands in Uplyme yesterday (Saturday).

Lyme Regis, Charmouth and Axminster crews were called to the incident in Woodhouse Lane at 11.39am.

The water supply was limited in the woodlands but quick intervention from the three crews prevented the fire from escalating further.

Crews managed to successfully extinguish the fire using multiple hose reel jets, drag forks and beaters.

The cause of the fire was accidental spread from an enclosed incinerator.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “Please be thoughtful of your surrounding areas if you decide to have a bonfire in these dry conditions.”

The incident comes after Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service issued an amber alert for wildfires this weekend due to the dry and windy conditions.
