Council ‘disappointed’ with broadband’s slow progress

Coils of cable have been left around Uplyme after Gigaclear lost its contract to deliver fibre -optic broadband to the village

GIGACLEAR, the contractors who were installing fibre broadband in Uplyme have ceased working.

The parish council was disappointed to learn that a new contract may take up to a year to award and that there is no organisation that appears to accept responsibility for removal of the coils of cable left at sites around the village, together with unfilled holes in the ground and inadequately restored road surfaces.

The parish council has already involved the county councillor, Ian Hall and will be writing to Neil Parish MP in an attempt to get resolution for this wholly unsatisfactory state of affairs.

New plans for school unveiled

DETAILED plans for the new primary school in Uplyme have now been submitted to East Devon District Council by the Bestic Trust.

The parish council is fully supportive of the new school but has serious reservations concerning access and egress from and onto Lyme Road, with possible disruption to traffic and the danger to children and parents with vehicles having to turn round within the school grounds.

The council is working with the Bestic Trust and the county and district councillors to try and resolve the issue.

Public meeting on affordable housing

UPLYME Parish Council, along with Wessex Community Land Trust, will be holding a public meeting on November 20 to let residents know more about what Community Land Trusts are and how setting one up could help to deliver a scheme of affordable homes for local people in Uplyme.

The meeting will also offer the opportunity to volunteer to form a steering group to take the project forward.

The meeting will be held in the village hall from 7pm and if you would like to get involved or would like more information, contact Councillor Bill Trundley on 07881 502 098 or the parish clerk.
