THE team at Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage HQ were delighted to host an educational trip for the reception class of Mrs Ethelston’s Primary Academy, based in Uplyme, last week.
The class, who are currently immersed in their ‘see how they grow’ topic, enjoyed meeting the piglets, collecting the eggs from the hens and foraging ingredients from the kitchen garden.
They stretched, topped and cooked their own pizzas to be cooked in the wood-fired oven for lunch, and also made sausages to take home for their dinner, but it’s safe to say that the highlight of their visit was the tractor journey back up the hill.
Their teacher, Mrs Storer expressed what a “wonderful educational experience” it was, and the team at River Cottage were extremely impressed at how engaged the children were, and how keen they were to learn more about the provenance of their food.
