Swimmers set for fourth Lyme Splash challenge

LYME Splash will host its fourth Lyme Regis to Charmouth swimming challenge on Sunday, September 8.

All 200 places for the 3.15k swim have sold out but organisers are inviting all to come along and cheer on the competitors.

The race will be started by the Mayor of Lyme Regis, Councillor Brian Larcombe, and Mayoress Wendy Larcombe, on the sandy beach at 12.45pm, and will finish in Charmouth with the first competitors expected from 1.25pm.

Chairman of Lyme Splash, Karen Durham-Diggins, said: “Everyone has pulled together again this year with more people stepping up to join in and offer support. We are so grateful for their kindness and willingness to help. Anyone else who would like to help on the day would be most welcome.”

The harbourmaster and staff, Lyme Regis Sailing Club, gig club, power boat club, Rob Perry Marine and Lyme Bay Boats are all providing hard-boat and RIB sea safety support, together with many kayakers.

The swimmers and volunteers will be fortified after their efforts by Dorset Chocolatiers Chococo hot chocolate drink and Moores Biscuits and then whizzed back to Lyme Regis by Lyme Rib Rides!

Raffle tickets costing just £1 each will be on sale on the day or online in advance at www.lyme-splash.com/swim-raffle/

This year’s first prize is from Malcolm Greenslade, founder of Lyme Bay Swimming. Malcolm has been training some of the swimmers taking part this year and has given a £100 voucher towards any HUUB Open Water Swimming/Triathlon wetsuit plus a HUUB Safety Tow Float.

For those not as keen on the water, other prizes include vouchers from The Pilot Boat,  Harbour Inn and SWIM, fish and chips from Herbies and The Fisherman’s Wife, and chocolate fish and chips from Chococo.

There are also some prizes from the Marine Aquarium, Lyme Rib Rides and Lyme Kayak Hire.

Lyme Splash is a not-for-profit organisation which promotes and organises water sport events, including the swimming challenge and an annual water polo championship.

It aims to raise funds for local charities, with this year’s chosen beneficiaries being B Sharp and Plastic Free Lyme Regis.
