A MAQUETTE of the Mary Anning statue to be erected in Lyme Regis will go on display at the Marine Theatre later this month.

The maquette, created by artist Denise Dutton, depicts Mary in her full working clothes, carrying the accoutrements of her trade, basket, bonnet and hammer, and accompanied by her dog Tray.

It will be on display at the theatre on Saturday, May 22 from 11am to 2pm.

Denise and the Mary Anning Rocks committee will be available to answer any questions, and a complimentary coffee and doughnut will be available for all DT7 residents.

This will be a socially-distanced event and those attending should wear a face mask unless exempt.

The Mary Anning Rocks campaign successfully raised £100,000 through a crowdfunding appeal in just four months over late 2020 and early 2021.

The appeal was given the backing of high-profile supporters such as Sir David Attenborough and author Tracey Chevalier, who wrote ‘Remarkable Creatures’ based on Mary Anning’s life.
