LymeOnline partners with news network to provide Axminster and Seaton coverage

LYME Regis Media Limited, publishers of the LymeOnline website and newspaper, has joined forces with a network of hyperlocal websites to bring news coverage to the Axminster and Seaton areas.

Nub News is aiming to launch 700 websites in the UK within two years and has now partnered with Lyme Regis Media Limited, managed by veteran West Country journalist Philip Evans MBE, to extend its coverage in Devon.

Mr Evans and his daughter Francesca, who edits the LymeOnline website and newspaper, will be providing editorial content for two new sites – Axminster Nub News and Seaton Nub News.

Nub News, which launched last January, already has three sites in East Devon covering Honiton, Sidmouth and Exmouth.

Mr Evans said: “Our LymeOnline paper and website, launched two years ago, is hugely popular and we have been under pressure to launch similar sites in Axminster and Seaton, two towns crying out for more comprehensive coverage of local events.

“That would be foolhardy in the current climate but the Nub News model can fill that gap with a low-cost concept.  We already have good contacts in both towns and we look forward to being part of the Nub News set-up which will now include 35 towns in the UK.

“Small towns have all but been abandoned by the bigger regional publishers and many titles have closed in recent times. Nub News is definitely the way forward for hyperlocal news and I believe will become a force in local publishing.

Nub News founder and CEO, Karl Hancock, said he was delighted to have secured the services of such an experienced journalist father and daughter partnership.

“They are both passionate about how local news is presented and I am proud and honoured that they have joined our team. I’m looking forward to learning a lot from them,” he said.

Hancock’s ambition is to have up to 700 news websites focusing on towns with populations between 5,000 and 100,000. He is currently on a recruitment drive and intends to employ 200 journalists.
