IN a bid to support local businesses during lockdown, LymeOnline is offering special advertising discounts as it temporarily moves to a digital-only format.
For the second time this year, publication of the printed LymeOnline newspaper is being put on hold due to the COVID-19 lockdown and the financial implications of the restrictions imposed.
Editor Francesca Evans explained: “LymeOnline is a not-for-profit, independent and family-run community venture which relies solely on advertising revenue and sponsorship to cover its costs.
“With most of this revenue coming from the hospitality and tourism sector, businesses from which will be forced to close as of Thursday, we have had to take the difficult decision to temporarily suspend publication of our printed, free, fortnightly newspaper.
“We don’t take this decision lightly, as we know our printed paper is a vital resource of local news for some of our readers who do not use the internet.”
The LymeOnline printed paper was put on hiatus for 20 weeks during lockdown earlier this year and successfully relaunched in August.
During this time, a digital version of the newspaper was released every fortnight on the LymeOnline website, read on average of 1,500 times, and the website was also updated every day with the latest local news.
LymeOnline will be moving to the same format during November, with digital editions replacing the normal printed newspaper on November 13 and 27.
Miss Evans added: “This time we hope the restrictions will only be in place for a month and our loyal advertisers and all local businesses can get back up and running in December.
“In the meantime, we are offering special discounted advertising rates in our digital newspaper, which we hope will give local businesses the opportunity to promote themselves at an affordable price.
“We are very keen to support the local business community during this challenging time, and will also be publishing live updates on our website on special services offered during lockdown, such as takeaways, deliveries, etc.”
Advertisements in the digital edition of LymeOnline to be published on November 13 and 27 are available for the following special discount prices:
- Full page advert (264mm wide x 319mm deep) for £50 – discounted from £125
- Half page advert (264mm wide x 150mm deep) for £35 – discounted from £65
- Quarter page advert (130mm wide x 150mm deep) for £25 – discounted from £45
All advertisers will also be offered the opportunity to repeat their advert in the first printed issue after lockdown for the same discounted price.

It is hoped the printed edition of LymeOnline will return on December 4, depending on restrictions at that time.
