Lyme walkers raise more than £2,000 for Macmillan

LYME Regis walking enthusiasts Liz Broome and Alice Williams completed the Thames Path Mighty Hike last weekend, raising more than £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Liz and Alice completed the 26-mile hike on Saturday, July 20 with 2,000 other participants. They set off at 8.50am following a Zumba warm-up, walking from Windsor Racecourse to Remenham, near Henley, and completed the challenge in just over six hours and 30 minutes, placing them 11th and 12th out of 1,943 finishers.

Liz and Alice have now raised more than £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support through sponsorship and a coffee morning held on Lyme Regis seafront in June.

Alice said: “It was a fantastic weekend. The camaraderie between the walkers was great. Everyone was so supportive of each other and to have raised this sum of money for the charity is amazing!”

Liz added: “We met so many people who’s lives had been touched by cancer, not just their friends and families but themselves too. Everyone was urging each other on to the finish. There was such a positive atmosphere throughout the whole day.”

Liz and Alice would like to thank everyone that has supported them and sponsored them over the last three and half months. They’re now taking a well earned break but are already thinking about their next challenge.
