Uplyme resident to host 24-hour online games marathon for charity

UPLYME resident Anita Routley is hoping to raise £500 for Cancer Research UK with a 24-hour virtual games marathon.

Anita, who is treasurer of the Lyme Regis branch of Cancer Research UK, had planned to host a public 24-hour games marathon in August. But, due to the coronavirus epidemic, she has decided to take the unique event online.

Anita will now be using video conferencing app Zoom or Facebook Live to host the virtual event over May 30 and 31, and she will be playing board games and cards non-stop against competitors for the entire 24 hours.

She said: “Taking this online will make it a more difficult event for me personally, as I will have to rely on insomniacs and friends in Canada and the USA to keep me awake through the night.”

But this will not be Anita’s first tiring challenge for charity. She has previously taken part in an overnight walk around London for Cancer Research UK, and completed the challenge of visiting every station on the London Underground network within one weekend for Water Survival Box.

Anita is hoping to raise £500 for Cancer Research UK and has already managed to raise half of this through online sponsorship. You can make a donation via Facebook at www.facebook.com/donate/567354880796739/
