Plans for new food festival to come to Lyme next year

PLANS to bring a new food festival to Lyme Regis this year have been put to the town council.

Eat Festivals, award-winning, locally-focussed events, have previously been held across South Somerset and in Honiton.

It hoped to expand into Lyme Regis in 2021, with an event similar in scale to local chef Mark Hix’s popular Food Rocks festival.

Speaking at last week’s virtual council meeting, organisers Sarah and Bev Milner-Simonds said the festival would be a “safe and welcoming event that celebrates Lyme Regis using local food producers outside of the main summer season”.

They had applied to host the festival on Lyme Regis seafront on May 22 2021, but councillors were not keen on this date as it would be just one week before another major event, Jazz Jurassica, which also includes some food stalls on Marine Parade.

Councillors also questioned whether local traders had been approached or shown any interest in taking part in the event.

The organisers were asked to gauge interest from traders and suggest a new date, which will be brought back to a future council meeting for consideration.
