New children’s book promotes safety at sea

AN author from Combpyne, near Lyme Regis, is promoting water safety with her new children’s book ‘Merry bay On The Rocks’.

The charming children’s story, written by Nicola Payne and illustrated by Kayleigh Evans, is based around the Merry Bay lifeboat, named Fred.

Fred is enjoying a peaceful day bobbing on the water, laughing with his friends Roscoe and Sally, Charlie the Seagull, Susie the C Class lifeboat and Tobi, her trailer, when a call comes in – two people are cut off by the tide at Starfish Peak.

Fred is in the middle of a bath and Susie must answer the call. She and the crew race out to rescue a man and a child who have lingered too long on the beach!

Will they get there in time? Is anyone hurt? This is a charming tale for young children with an important lesson about safety at sea, especially for those living in and around Lyme Regis.

Author Nicola and her husband relocated to East Devon seven years ago to be near the sea. Having spent the last 20 years on and around the water, it seemed the natural thing to do.

Her book ‘Merry Bay On The Rocks’, published by Olympia Publishers, is available for £5.99 at
