A NEW gourmet burger truck has proved a huge hit in Lyme Regis for that special weekend treat during lockdown.
Steve Batey and Kirsty Roberts – the couple behind Fossil Food Catering – have built up a reputation as one of the go-to catering companies for weddings across the region over the past few years.
But with so many events cancelled during the pandemic, they realised they needed a new focus for their business and have now launched their own food truck, Fossil On The Road.
Kirsty said: “We decided to pivot using our many years catering experience and skillset whilst restrictions remain on the industry, sticking to our roots of high quality offerings using local produce served via our food truck we converted ourselves.”
The truck opened for the first time at The Tunnel Tree Tops, near Charmouth, just before the second national lockdown and is now offering a mouthwatering menu of stacked burgers, sides, desserts and hot and cold drinks every weekend at Lyme Regis Football Club, including beef, chicken, lamb and vegetarian and vegan options.
The new venture has proved a huge hit, with customers queueing around the car park every weekend.
Kirsty added: “The burgers we are creating are a little different to just your expected kind of flavours. The goal was to create a menu with a twist on the classics we all know and love that switches things up a little bit to keep customers excited to try each one.”
And they have certainly achieved that, with one return customer having already managed to eat his way through every item on the menu!
“It’s a great feeling when people take their first bite and literally smile,” Kirsty added.
You can now skip the queues at Fossil On The Road with a new pre-ordering system in place.
Kirsty said: “We have just launched a pre order system which we are very excited about as we hope it provides customers an easy way to order take out to avoid waiting too long and something to look forward too during the craziness that is going on right now in lockdown.”
The truck is open from 4pm to 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 12noon to 4pm on Sundays – or until sold out.
