Mayor and committee chairmen to remain in place until council meetings resume

Councillor Brian Larcombe

THE Mayor of Lyme Regis and all town council committee chairmen will stay in post until meetings can resume.

Yesterday (Wednesday) would have hosted the traditional mayor making ceremony in Lyme Regis, which had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus epidemic.

The council would normally have elected the mayor for the coming year ahead of this event, but have been unable to do so as they have not been meeting in full due to social distancing regulations.

Instead, Councillor Brian Larcombe MBE will continue to hold the post until the council can resume normal meetings. All committee chairmen and vice-chairmen will also remain in place for this period.

Councillor Larcombe also hold the chairmanship of the Strategy & Finance and Human Resources Committees, while Councillor Graham Turner leads the Planning Committee, Councillor John Broom chairs Town Management and Councillor Kelsey Ellis head the Tourism, Community & Publicity Committee.

This does not mean the current incumbents will automatically remain in place for the rest of the year, unless re-elected.

However, as Councillor Larcombe has only served one year as mayor, it is likely that he will be offered a second, as is tradition of the council.
