Jazz Jurassica second major festival to be cancelled

ORGANISERS of Jazz Jurassica – Lyme Regis’ annual festival celebrating jazz, blues, soul and funk – have announced this year’s event is cancelled.

Schedule to take place on the late May Bank Holiday, it has become the second of Lyme’s major festivals to be called off amid the coronavirus epidemic, following suit of the Fossil Festival.

Festival Julie Sheppard said: “In the current circumstances we’ve taken the difficult decision to cancel May’s festival. We were hoping that we might be able to go ahead as the festival is still several weeks away but recent developments have made cancellation inevitable.

“We are very sorry to disappoint our many loyal customers and supporters and deprive many wonderful performers of the opportunity to do what they do best – make great music.

“We will fully refund all tickets. If you bought tickets online this will happen automatically within the next 10 working days.

“If you booked tickets through Lyme Regis Tourist Information Centre, they will contact you shortly. It is not necessary to get in contact with them to request a refund. Because of the volume of work involved we appreciate your patience and understanding at this difficult time.

“We will be back next year (Friday, May 28 – Monday, May 31 2021) and hope you’ll all join us then. In the meantime take care of each other and keep safe.”

Other local events to be cancelled or postponed include Uplyme Village Fete, the mayor’s Civic Night, Lyme Regis Musical Theatre’s production of ‘Chicago’, events at the Marine Theatre, the town’s Easter Bonnet Parade and Easter Monday Duck Race, as well as many smaller events.
