THE Dorset Carers Card will be donating £5 to Lyme Regis Foodbank every time a local business joins the scheme.
The Carers Card is an established, official scheme to recognise unpaid carers in the community in Dorset. Close to 300 businesses have joined the scheme since its inception in June 2016.
The card enables unpaid carers, when they show their Carers Card, to obtain a discount, concession or preferential service with any business that signs up to the scheme. It is funded by Dorset County Council, Bournemouth Borough Council, the Borough of Poole and Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group.
For the remainder of 2018, the scheme will donate £5 to the food bank for every business in Lyme Regis or Charmouth that joins.
Julie England of the Dorset Carers Card scheme said: “Carers Card discount scheme helps to remind us all of the vital work done by unpaid carers amongst us and that we can do something positive to support them. The increased visibility that the Carers Card offers helps carers to feel valued and appreciative of the recognition the card gives them.
“It is estimated that unpaid carers across the country save the country approximately £60 billion a year (Office of National Statistics 2017).
“The foodbank is entirely reliant on donations (food or cash) and run by volunteers. We hope that by ‘keeping things local’ businesses in the area will respond and consider joining the Carers Card scheme.”
There are no costs for a business to join, it is quick and easy either online www.mycarerscard.co.uk/for-business or call Julie on 01202 764778 for free marketing on the Carers Card website, links to your website or social media pages.
