LARGE crowds on Lyme Regis beach were cleared when an air ambulance landed on the sand on Sunday afternoon.

The RNLI lifeguards and ambulance service were dealing with a medical emergency on the beach and Devon Air Ambulance was called to take the casualty to hospital.

Lyme Regis Coastguards were also called just after 5pm to assist with clearing crowds from the beach to allow the helicopter to land safely.
