Town council launches interactive ‘Discovery Trail’ for visitors

AN exciting new tourism initiative is being launched this week by Lyme Regis Town Council.

Lyme Regis Town Map and Discovery Trail has been introduced to replace the traditional, printed town brochure with a modern multi-media map and town guide.

It also replaces the popular traders’, map which has not been produced in the past two years.

The concept has been delivered by local design agency Coastline Creative, using the skills of local designers, illustrators, video producers and voiceover artists.

In all, a group of eight local creatives have worked on the project, who all live and trade from the town itself.

The project features a new illustrated map and video trail which guides people around all areas of the town, featuring historical and cultural highlights which showcase the very best Lyme has to offer.

The map is accompanied by a mobile-friendly website which allows people to search for attractions, food and drink outlets, shops and businesses as they visit each area of the town.

The videos are short and informative, featuring animations to make them exciting and appealing to all ages.

The concept has been delivered on the same annual budget as the previous town map, with a considerable saving expected next year when it will only need some small updates.

Project lead Wes Dowell, of Coastline Creative, has praised the council for using local talent to deliver the project.

He said: “The council should feel very humble in its decision to choose a local agency to deliver this project. In a very tough year for trading, they have supported eight local businesses and families in the creation of this new map and guide.

“It is a great way of showcasing the incredible pool of talent we have here in Lyme. A huge benefit of the project is the fact that it allows people to take a virtual tour of Lyme Regis, as many people across the UK and beyond won’t be able to visit the town due to the current COVID restrictions and travel bans.”

Check out the new map and trail at www.discoverlymeregis.co.uk and pick up a free map next time you are in Lyme Regis from the many shops, cafes and attractions who will soon be stocking them.
