A SECOND official trailer for the movie ‘Ammonite’, partially filmed in Lyme Regis, has been released.
The trailer shows Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet playing Lyme Regis’ famous 19th century fossil hunter Mary Anning, as she develops an intense bond with another woman, Charlotte Murchison, played by Saoirse Ronan.
Directed by Francis Lee, best known for his acclaimed debut ‘God’s Own Country’, the movie will explore the themes of class and same sex relationships.
The first official trailer was released back in August and this second glimpse at the movie reveals more scenes filmed on local beaches at in the Bell Cliff area of Lyme Regis in March 2019.
It was released as ‘Ammonite’ closed the British Film Festival and a preview screening was held at 300 cinemas across the UK this weekend.
Following the screening, the editor of movie magazine Empire, Terri White, said Winslet’s portrayal of Mary Anning was the performance of her career.
Ammonite closes the @BFI #LFF tonight and plays at 300 screens around the UK. It’s a towering achievement from @strawhousefilms. A masterful study of isolation; the power of touch and connection. Exquisite, aching. It’s also the performance of Kate Winslet’s career.

The film has already won rave reviews from critics after being premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September.
It had previously been reported that the film would go on general release in November, but in one of his more recent posts on social media platform Twitter, director Francis Lee said ‘Ammonite’ would be out next year.
