LYME Regis-based movie ‘Ammonite’ is one of many to have its release date delayed due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Based on the life of Lyme’s famous fossil hunter Mary Anning, the film stars award-winning actresses Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan, with many scenes shot in the town last March.

There has been much speculation about the film’s release date, as it is expected to bring an influx of fossil fanatics to the area.

But all cinema releases have been postponed with cinemas closed due the pandemic.

Commenting on social networking site Twitter, director Francis Lee – best known for the acclaimed ‘God’s Own Country’ – said he did not know when ‘Ammonite’ would premiere.

He added: “Thank you for all the continued support and when it is released, I hope you’ll all flock to the cinema to see it.”
