COMPLETION of a new harbourmaster’s store at Monmouth Beach in Lyme Regis is expected to be delayed until at least July.

Planning permission has been granted for an industrial-style building measuring 19 metres wide by 5.4 metres tall to provide storage for the harbourmaster and local fishermen.

It will be sited between the public toilets and traders’ car parking area at Monmouth Beach, just off Ozone Terrace, providing a “much-needed facility” for use with the harbour and commercial fishing-related activities.

The harbourmaster is currently using a town council-owned building, next to the Boat Building Academy, under the terms of a held-over lease.

Councillors have indicated they would like to take back this property for use by the town council.

Officers said they will continue to liaise with the harbourmaster and Dorset Council and ensure that vacation of the town council’s building takes place as soon as practicably possible after the completion of the new store building.
