VENUES across the town will be holding special events over the Easter holidays for the first Lyme Regis Children’s Week.
The Marine Theatre has led the organisation of the event, inviting local organisations to work together to stage 35 events for children over five days.
Events will be held at the theatre, Lyme Regis Museum, the Town Mill, The Hub, Serendip bookshop, in the Story Boat on Marine Parade and at the skatepark in Charmouth Road, as well as on the beach and around the town.
The week includes wild beach walks, sea rescue tales from the lifeboat men, painting, yoga, dance, storytelling, making pop bands, film screenings, skateboarding and more.
Each day has been scheduled so that children and families can enjoy several sessions in one day, to make best use of the trip and have a great day out in Lyme Regis.
Marine Theatre director and organiser of Lyme Regis Children’s Week, Gabby Rabbitts, said: “Having events for children is incredibly important for every community.
“Children need to know that they are valued and should be encouraged to use theatres and other creative spaces. These spaces are for children to use just as much as anyone else.
“With so many brilliant organisations and fantastic creative individuals, it just makes perfect sense to get them all together for a week of fun and learning.
“As well as bringing the children of our local community together, I am so pleased that the town’s organisations have an opportunity to work together too. Every invitation I made was received with positivity and it’s great to get to know people better.
“I’m hoping that this is the first collaboration of many.”
Lyme Regis Children’s Week will be held from Tuesday, April 3 to Saturday, April 7. Highlights of the week will include a wild food and wild art beach wander with Chris Holland – expect a taste of wild cooked food during the outing, a walk and talk along the beach, collecting things to make a group land art piece.
Other events will include ‘The Sea in Song’ – family singing session with Diana Takezoe; ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea Treasure Hunt’ – from Serendip and all around Lyme; ‘Junior Dinosaur’ with award winning author and illustrator Rob Biddulph; ‘In the Band Jam Session’ with Pete Wilde; ‘The Little Mermaid’ indoor outdoor cinema experience; and a skate jam at the skatepark.
