Lyme Regis Museum is looking for more people to join its team of volunteers

LYME Regis Museum is looking for enthusiastic people who love the town and its history to join a variety of roles within its team of dedicated volunteers.

The museum will host a Volunteer Open Day on Wednesday, April 24 and welcomes all those interested to come along, meet some of the current volunteers and learn more about what a volunteering role has to offer.

Museum director David Tucker said: “Experience isn’t necessary, it’s more important that you enjoy meeting people and have a positive and friendly outlook. We’ll ensure you’re fully trained and supported – just bring your enthusiasm!”

In particular, the museum is looking to grow its team of front desk volunteers and gallery guides as it prepares for another busy summer season.

Front desk Volunteer Rachel Vickery commented: “It’s great fun volunteering at the museum – one of the highlights of my week! As well as regular training sessions we have coffee mornings with speakers and groups trips.

“I work on the front desk and I love meeting all the interesting people that come through the door. I have learnt a lot on a variety of topics and enjoying sharing that knowledge with others.

“Come and join us – the time is guaranteed to fly!”

Volunteer Lizzie Wiscombe added: “I started volunteering here four years ago because I enjoy local history and spending time with the public.

“We are a friendly bunch and you are always made to feel welcome. Volunteering can fit well into other parts of your life and you can do as little or as much as you like.

“Come along to our open day and find out more, who knows what you’ll learn and you may be able to teach us something! “

The museum also holds interactive fossil polishing days on Lyme Regis seafront throughout the summer and is looking for volunteers of all ages to help with selling and polishing fossils with the public.

Volunteer John Marriage said: “I’ve helped with the polishing days for the last few years. It’s really enjoyable! Especially talking to parents and children about the fossils and showing them how they will look when they are finally polished.

“A very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours in the sunshine.”

The volunteer open day will be held from 10am to 2pm at Lyme Regis Museum or for further information contact museum director David Tucker on 01297 443370 or email
