LYME Regis Town Council is seeking a new macebearer to take part in civic functions.
The original responsibilities of the macebearers was to protect and defend the honour of the town’s mayor, but the voluntary role is now purely ceremonial. The successful candidate would be required to take part in civic functions, such as parades and the annual civic night and mayor making, in full dress and carrying the mace.
The position has arisen as long-standing volunteer Derek Hallett is no longer able to carry out the duties, and his successor would serve the town alongside current macebearer Jon Hunt, who recently took over from Colin Barker.
