Gardens gatepost not up to scratch

The gatepost at Langmoor Gardens was rebuilt after being knocked down by a lorry in December, but councillors are not happy with the workmanship

TOWN councillors have expressed disappointment in the reconstruction of a gatepost at Langmoor Gardens in Lyme Regis, describing it as “outrageous” and “shocking”.

The gatepost at the Pound Street entrance to the gardens was knocked down by a lorry delivering a skip in December and was recently rebuilt, but councillors are not happy with the quality of work.

Councillor Sean Larcombe said: “I looked at the way that pillar has been reinstated and quite frankly I’m not very impressed with it.

“The wording is chipped, there’s cement all over it and it looks like an apprentice has done it with a spoon in the pouring rain.

“I think it’s outrageous and it doesn’t set a good example. It should be taken down and re-done.”

Councillor Derek Hallett agreed, adding: “It looks like a two year old has built it, it’s absolutely shocking. Those garden pillars have been there all my life and it really is dreadful.”

Councillor John Broom added: “I looked at it today and I was disgusted. It should be taken down and rebuilt.”

The Mayor of Lyme Regis, Councillor Michaela Ellis, said it would be looked at again.
