Council to continue funding ‘essential’ town bus

town busLYME Regis Town Council has upped its funding for the town bus service by £1,500, describing it as “essential” for many residents.

The 71 town bus service has been operated by Go South Coast, also known as Damory, for the past three years at a fixed cost of £12,000, with the town council meeting the whole of this cost.

Last week, councillors were informed that the cost of providing the service for the next 12 months would increase to £13,500.

However, members were adamant that they should still fund it, describing it as an “essential service” and a “lifeline” for many residents, particularly the elderly and those who live on the outskirts of the town.
