TWO new appointments have recently been made by the Golden Cap Team of local churches, which inlcues St Michael’s Parish Church in Lyme Regis.

The Bishop of Sherborne and the Reverend Chris Martin, team rector of the Golden Cap Team, recently announced the appointment of the Reverend Virginia Luckett as the new, half-time team vicar.

She replaced the Reverend Jane Skinner, who moved to a new parish in north Devon in 2019.

The Reverend Martin said: “Anyone who knows Virginia will recognise how fortunate we are that she is taking up this post in the Golden Cap Team.

“She brings enthusiasm, creativity, passion, great organisational skills and a big heart with her and this marks the start of an exciting new chapter in our life together here.

“She is already known to many for her unique clergy shirts and love of all things bling.”

Virginia, 53, also known as Ginny, lives with her husband Tim in a small hamlet between Whitchurch Canonicorum and Wootton Fitzpaine.

She moved into the area three years ago and has been a voluntary member of the Golden Cap leadership team alongside her busy full time job based in London, working across the UK as the Churches Director for the Christian international relief and development charity, Tearfund.

Virginia left Tearfund in October and was licenced over zoom on December 15 2020 but is now looking forward to getting to know the wider community as lockdown restrictions are eased.

The Reverend Luckett said: “Having lived for the first 50 years of my life in West London, close to the M4 flyover, under the flight path to Heathrow I am still blown away by how God has called me to such an extraordinary and beautiful place.

“Leaving Tearfund has enabled me to take up this post, which secretly has always been my dream job. I am looking forward to working with Chris, the team and many in our local community, as together we explore what God has in store for our area.”

Ginny combines this ministry with her other professional interests – fundraising and communications, leadership coaching and spiritual direction, broadcasting, speaking and writing.

The Reverend Luckett will now be joined by a new appointment – the Reverend Sarah Godfrey as house of duty team vicar. This means Sarah will be part-time and will move to Lyme Regis and live in a vicarage property for the role.

Sarah is currently the Rector of the Milborne Port group of churches, a rural multi-parish benefice in the Diocese of Bath and Wells, though Sarah began her ordained ministry in Puddletown in the Diocese of Salisbury.

The Reverend Martin said: “Sarah brings with her a wealth of parish experience and we very much look forward to welcoming Sarah and to working with her.

“We hope that she might be licensed sometime this coming September.

“Please pray for Sarah and her family as they prepare to uproot themselves from their existing home and allow them- selves to be planted among us here in the Golden Cap.”
