WITH blizzard conditions forecasted for the South West today (Thursday) and tomorrow, local schools in and around Lyme Regis have been closed.

Dorset County Council announced yesterday that there would be no school transport running and it was confirmed this morning that the Woodroffe School and St Michael’s Primary School in Lyme were not opening today.

Mrs Etheston’s School in Uplyme and Charmouth Primary School are also closed today.

Light snow started falling in Lyme early this morning but as Storm Emma gathers momentum, heavy snow is predicted for the western peninsular later today, possibly as much as 20 centimetres.

According to the BBC weather centre a Red Warning – the highest level with a risk to life – has been issued for Devon and Somerset with temperatures falling as low as -9.
